Imagine standing on a challenge course platform 40 feet in the air and looking out across the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas. There’s a crisp breeze whistling through the trees, causing them to sway. You hear the words, “Jump On!” from far below at ground level. This is the moment. You freeze and ask yourself, “Am I really going to follow through with this?” It seems so counter intuitive to jump off, abandoning the safety of the platform, but logically, you know it’s safe. You’ve seen other people accomplish this (and they even seem to have a ton of fun in the process!) You know the equipment is safe, but you still can’t help thinking, “What if this is the one time it fails?”
Then suddenly, you get a burst of courage. You close your eyes and take a step off the platform. A step out and away from the safety of your current situation and into the unknown. In that step, you put your trust in the equipment that you’re secured to. You open your eyes as the quick descent device slows your drop as you float safely to the ground. You did it!
This is what it can feel like to take the leap off of The Tower. Its the newest addition to our Challenge Course, located at the Fossil Creek campus. One of our goals here at camp is to provide opportunities for our guests and campers to have experiences that they can easily correlate to their walk with Christ. Of course, we want you to walk away from camp having had a fun time. But more than that, we want your time on our property to be marked by an encounter with Jesus.
For example, when you face an unknown situation in your everyday life, we hope you can think back to your time at camp and remember jumping off that platform. Just a second of courage enabled you to jump off and into the unknown. It is then that you learned you can trust the equipment to do what it’s supposed to do.
And you know what? You can trust that the same is true for God. If He has lead you to a situation and asked you to obey Him, then even though it’s scary and unknown, He will take care of you! As much as you had to put your faith in the equipment at the challenge course, God is way above and beyond more trustworthy and faithful than that! His Word says that He will never leave or forsake us, and we can put 100% confidence in that fact.
His Word also says:
“And without faith it is impossible to please God.” – Hebrews 11:6 a
Faith is a vital part of the Christian walk. And here at Frontier Camp, we hope to provide experiences for your faith to be grown and stretched. We want you to apply that to the challenges you face in everyday life.
If this sounds fun, then take the leap, and come spend some time at camp! Sign up for a week of Family Camp next summer or send your kiddos to a week of Summer Camp! During the school year, we invite you to check out our programmed retreats, or even consider bringing a group from your church out to camp to rent our facilities for a weekend away. We cannot wait to serve you!
